This, at first glance, may look like our gorgeous native Primrose, but don’t be fooled. This is the superhero of Primrose breeding. A supercharged version that has been released to the market in recent years and is set to take the gardening world by storm.
Primrose Everlast retains the beautiful soft yellow blooms of the original species, but possesses the most astonishing flower power of almost any plant I know, and at a time of year when there are so little flowers in our gardens. It begins to flower in autumn and remains in bloom for an astounding six months!
It is a perennial and will flower for many years to come in our borders and beneath trees and shrubs. It is also eminently suited to our autumn, winter and spring containers with a height and spread of 20cm (8″). The blooms are set off beautifully by the rosettes of dark green groundcover foliage.
It is very low maintenance in the garden. The plants are almost unnoticable in the summer months and require very little care, but will burst in to flower again in the colder part of the year. It is almost a case of plant and forget.
Why not be one of the earliest adopters of this amazing breeding. To my mind it will be just the start of something very special. If new colours can be bred from this plant that will flower so profusely and for so long, we may have the bedding plant and perennial of the century on our hands. I am sure that breeders are hard at work to make this possible.
