Some people like mild food, some of us like spicy food but if you are one of the folk who like BLOW YOUR HEAD OFF food then Carolina Reaper is the chilli to grow!

This is the world’s hottest chilli. Don’t take my word for it, this has been confirmed by the Guiness Book of Records! The heat of a chilli, you may have heard, is measured on the Scoville scale.  The Carolina Reaper measures in at 2.2million Scoville and so is not for the faint hearted.

The breeders, based in South Carolina USA, have crossed a Habanero chilli with a Ghost chilli, with astounding results.  The taste has been described as having a fruity, cinnamon/chocolate taste before the mind-blowing heat kicks in.

The pointed scorpion tail on some of the variably  shaped chillies serves perhaps as a warning of the sting it can add to our food. Plants will produce a harvest in late August to mid October and will reach a height and spread of around 61-70cm (24-28in).

I’m sure some of you more dare devil readers will risk a taste of the Carolina Reaper. If you are still able to speak, let me know your thoughts on this devil of a plant!
